Meet My Dogs

Xena was born on the 28th October 2009 at Ferncliffe in Morecambe Lancashire, When I arrived at Ferncliffe to view the litter I was taken into a room where so many of the puppies just roamed inside the pen. I was always taught the dog will pick you and within a few minutes that's exactly what happened. 8 weeks later we went back to pick her up and from that day my life instantly changed. Because of the nature and temperament behind the Glant Schnauzer the name "Xena" after the Warrior Princess just seemed perfect and it was a name she lived by every day of the week. Strong, protective, playful, energetic and loving is just a few of the many traits to describe her.

The biggest test was on 30th May 2014 after the birth of my son. Nobody really knew how Xena was going to react because she was use to all the attention. However she adjusted herself within the family immediately and welcomed Leo into our family. Very little did we know these two were going to become best friends and inseparable. Sharing many walks together and Leo being able to groom her dally formed a bond nobody could come close to. Xena was always protective of the family home but showed a completely different protective side when Leo was around. Always sharing cuddles and playing games just proved how amazing the Glant Schnauzers' temperament was.

Xena touched many people, and people just naturally fell in love with her because of her calm and loving nature. A dog that when the chips were down would pick you back up and place a smile on your face.

On the 22nd August 2019 our lives were turned upside down, after a short period of illness there was nothing anyone could do for her. We made the heartbreaking decision to lay her to rest to prevent any further suffering. Xena without a doubt has gone and left us feeling empty but remembering the good times and all the fun we had eases the pain.

All we can really hope is when we die heaven awaits and Rainbow Bridge really does exist so we can be reunited with Xena.

“A man’s best friend”

Hebe was born 6th June 2020 in Dishforth, North Yorkshire. At the time I didn’t feel quite ready for another dog after the passing of Xena, but my partner said it was worth viewing the litter and see what happens. With me loving dogs so much I was already in the mindset before going to view the litter that I was going to end up getting one.

After seeing the litter, I wasn’t really bothered on what sex we got so I just sat on the couch and observed what came to me. One kept coming backwards and forwards to me which “guess what” that turned out to be what was soon to be Hebe.

When Hebe came into our home she adjusted well, full of cuddles. Hebe instantly won over the hearts of the family, we could tell from such a young age she was going to be quite an intelligent dog. I always wanted to have a better understanding of dogs after Xena and that’s what got me into dog training. Without Xena and Hebe Robinsons K9 Academy wouldn’t exist.

Luther was born 9th October 2015 and was an import from Ukraine. Luther arrived in the United Kingdom around 2nd February 2016 and went to what we believe was a breeder, we don’t know if Luther was used to breed or was a show dog at Crufts.

On 4th February 2021 Luther was rehomed to a lovely lady down south, unfortunately 2 Giant Schnauzers became abit to much and when we saw the advert, we applied for him and were lucky to get him. Luther was then picked up on the 1st January 2022 by me and my partner and we brought him up to North Yorkshire.

After a few days Luther did start displaying some behaviours we knew were going to test and challenge us. It became apparent that Luther was not a big fan of males and showed some aggression towards me. Jamie and I then made the decision to take him through a 14 day decompression cycle where Jamie did all the work and I kept away.

After the 14 days Luther started calming down and was accepting me interacting with him, which was good news because now the training could start. Luther overall has settled in quite well and it has been interesting learning about him. We can safely say that Luther won’t be moving on from here.

Sadly Luther was put to rest on 7th October 2023.

Vito is our Giant Schnauzer and the heart of Robinsons K9 Academy. When he first joined the family, he was a big puppy in every sense—full of energy, curiosity, and mischief. Simple things like climbing the stairs or understanding basic cues were completely new to him, but with patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement, he has come such a long way in a short time.

Despite facing a few challenges early on, including a UTI while settling in, Vito has shown incredible resilience and eagerness to learn. His journey reflects exactly what we teach here: every dog has potential, and with the right guidance, they can thrive.

Vito is not just a much-loved member of the family, but also an inspiration to our clients. His progress is proof that even the biggest, bounciest dogs can learn, adapt, and shine with the right approach.
